Cookie notice
Updated 10 September 2026 · applies from that date
This site sets no cookies of its own. It writes exactly one key into your browser local storage, and a second key may be set by Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site as a content delivery network. Both are listed below with what they actually do.
| Key | Category | What it does | Where it lives and for how long | Who sets it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| br.notice.v1 | Strictly necessary | Records that you dismissed the notice at the bottom of the page, so that it is not shown again. | Browser local storage; kept until you clear site data | First party (this site) |
| __cf_bm | Strictly necessary | Set by Cloudflare to tell automated traffic apart from human readers and keep the site available. | HTTP cookie; approximately 30 minutes | Third party (Cloudflare, Inc.) |
Nothing else is stored. If you find a key on this domain that is not in the table above, the address on the contact page will reach the person who can explain it or remove it.
The site key
The key named br.notice.v1 is written by the small script that runs the notice at the foot of the page. It holds a single short value recording that the notice was dismissed. It contains no identifier, nothing derived from your device, and nothing that could be used to recognise you on another site or on a later visit beyond hiding one banner.
It is written to local storage rather than set as a cookie, which means it never leaves your browser. It is not transmitted with page requests, the operator cannot read it, and clearing site data for this domain removes it. If you never dismiss the notice, the key is never written.
The Cloudflare key
This site is delivered through Cloudflare, which absorbs automated traffic that would otherwise take a small site offline. In the course of doing that, Cloudflare may set a short-lived cookie named __cf_bm. It is used to distinguish automated requests from ordinary readers and expires within about half an hour.
That cookie is set by Cloudflare rather than by the operator, it is classed by Cloudflare as strictly necessary for the security of the service, and its content is not readable by this site. Cloudflare documents it in its own cookie policy.
What is not here
There are no analytics cookies, because there is no analytics package. There are no advertising cookies, no advertising identifiers and no conversion tracking, because this site carries no advertising. There is no session cookie, because there are no accounts and no server-side session.
No third-party fonts, scripts, stylesheets, images, videos or social widgets are loaded by any page on this site, so no third party other than Cloudflare is in a position to set anything at all.
Consent, and why the notice is worded the way it is
Because the only keys involved are strictly necessary for the notice itself and for the security of the connection, this site does not present a consent choice with categories to switch on and off. There is nothing to switch off - refusing everything and accepting everything would produce identical behaviour.
The notice at the foot of the page therefore tells you what is stored rather than asking permission to track you, which would be a misleading question given nothing here tracks anyone.
Controlling storage in your browser
Every current browser lets you view and delete cookies and local storage for a specific site, usually through a padlock or site information control beside the address bar. Deleting storage for this domain removes the notice key, with the only consequence that the notice appears again on your next visit.
Blocking storage for this site entirely also works. The pages are static and will render normally.
Marketing messages
The Spam Act 2003 (Cth) governs commercial electronic messages sent to Australian addresses. It is worth stating plainly that this site operates no mailing list and sends no marketing messages of any kind, so the question of consent under that Act does not arise here.
If you write to the editorial address, your address is used to answer you and for nothing else.
